STANDING UP TO SACRAMENTO
In 2011, party bosses were trying to slash funding for our schools, colleges and universities – but Anthony Portantino stood up and said no. Anthony refused to vote for the cuts, even under intense lobbying and severe punishment from his own party, because he knew we needed to protect our students. In the State Senate, Anthony will always be an independent voice standing up for what’s right.
REFUSING PERKS AND PAY RAISES
During his time in the Assembly, Anthony refused to accept a pay raise and turned down taxpayer-funded perks like a free district car. He led the charge to create an inspector general who could root out wasteful spending in state government. Anthony even took his office supplies as a carry-on when flying to save taxpayers money on shipping costs.
ALWAYS FIGHTING ON OUR SIDE
Anthony understands we need to end the culture of corruption in Sacramento and make state government accountable to the people. He has the courage not to back down under pressure from special interests. Anthony campaigned for Prop. 50 to stop paying corrupt legislators, and Prop. 54 to halt last-minute legislative deals with no public notice. His commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility will help lead the fight to reform Sacramento.
