Senate Leader Makes His Choice Pro Tem Kevin de León Endorses Portantino in the 25th

"Anthony Portantino is the best possible candidate.  His decades of community involvement and his impressive record of service and accomplishment make him the clear choice. Anthony and I have been friends since we came into the Assembly together and I don’t know anyone who works harder for his district or pays closer attention to residents in all our neighborhoods. I am proud to add my name to his long and growing list of supporters."

Portantino pronounced himself honored and delighted with de León’s endorsement:

"I am very proud to have earned the support of Pro Tem de León.  Under his leadership, the Senate is pursuing exciting and energetic public policy and I look forward to working with him on behalf of all Californians.  I am very grateful for his trust in me, and I’ll work hard every day to be equal to that trust."

In addition to leading the Senate, Kevin de León represents the neighboring 24th Senate District. Of special importance for the 25th Senate District, he has been the leader of major environmental efforts in Sacramento, and one of the driving forces behind the extremely successful entertainment tax credit plan to keep film production in California.

The Pro Tem is the latest in a long list of state and local leaders to announce support for Portantino – including Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, Congressman Adam Schiff, State Controller Betty Yee, and over 160 current and former local elected officials in the district.

Portantino has also been endorsed by the Sierra Club, the California Federation of Teachers, the California Small Business Association, PORAC, the California Police Chiefs Association, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs Association, the Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association, the Association of Independent Commercial Producers, ILWU Local 13, IBEW Local 18, ATU Local 1277, the Sheet Metal Workers Local 105, CWA Southern California, LIUNA Local 777, UA Local 78, The Teamsters Joint Council 42, AFT Local 1521 A College Staff Guild, CAPT ~ the California Association of Psychiatric Technicians, the Armenian National Committee of America Western Region and the Association of California State Supervisors.

Anthony is a former State Assembly Member and a Visiting Fellow at USC. He is the father of two great daughters, Sofia who completed her K-12 education in the district and Bella, a middle school student. Ellen Portantino is currently serving as the PTA President for Bella’s middle school and is an executive at Warner Brothers.
